how we met.
Aaron & Skyler knew of one another through church, & had never really spoken to each other until a life-changing challenge came upon her family in February of 2010. Skyler's step-father (Rick Lange) had once battled cancer in his 20s & he had been going to his regular checkups at the doctor, but they soon found out that Rick had stage four mantle cell lymphoma. This was a huge shock to Rick, Dana (Skyler's mother), & Kyra (Skyler's sister). The family decided to come to the church for prayer for Rick to be healed, and they came to the Young Adults ministry during their regular service to ask for prayer for him as Rick was a leader in the ministry. They also mentioned a separate prayer meeting at the Lange's house that weekend. Aaron, the drummer for the worship team, was listening to the tragic news & heard the Lord tell him to attend the prayer meeting that would be at their house that month. Unfortunately, he was unable to fit that meeting into his schedule, relieved that he had something else to attend to that day because he was uncomfortable & barely knew Skyler, let alone her family. The group then prayed over Rick during service & announced another opportunity to come pray that upcoming Saturday. Upon hearing of the Saturday prayer meeting, Aaron immediately heard the Lord say "You're going to that". Ironically, he was completely free & had no plans that Saturday. He attended the prayer meeting & also decided to participate in the Light the Night walk to raise money for a cure for cancer. After that, he & Skyler became closer friends. Aaron always was there to support Skyler & her family and was more than willing to lend a shoulder for Skyler to cry on. He quickly became one of Skyler's best friends. The Lord eventually completely healed Rick (praise God!) & continued to grow an unbreakable bond of friendship between Skyler & Aaron. It wasn't before long that their friendship grew into something more.
how aaron proposed.
About a month before the proposal, Aaron & Skyler were trying to figure out what they should do for the 9 month anniversary (which happened to be leap year). Skyler had mentioned that she maybe, just maybe, she didn't have class that Wednesday night. Aaron at that point had already scheduled a hot air balloon ride in Del Mar, CA to propose to Skyler. He was excited to find out that she probably didn't have class. Unfortunately, Skyler did have class scheduled for that Wednesday & told Aaron that they could reschedule their date for later. Little did Skyler know what Aaron had already planned. He was crushed & began to think of an excuse to get Skyler to skip class. He informed Skyler's professor of his plan, & also began coordinating a "business meeting" with their boss, ReaAnn (remember, Aaron & Skyler work together). A couple of weeks before leap year, ReaAnn asked Skyler if she could attend a business meeting down in Del Mar because she would need her & Aaron's help. Skyler, feeling torn, decided to email her professor about the "business meeting", hoping to be excused from class that night. Surprisingly, Skyler's professor was more than willing to grant her the time off. By the time February 29th arrived, everything was perfectly planned (or so it seemed). Aaron & Skyler began the day with breakfast with ReaAnn, their boss, to discuss the plan for the "business meeting". For some reason, Aaron & ReaAnn were able to throw Skyler off, which never happens because Skyler tends to be nosy & very clever. They even threw in details like "I told the executive we're meeting with that you are under 21, so you don't have to worry about the pressure of alcohol" (which was a total lie!) & "We have to take a $5,000 down payment so let's wrap it in an inconspicuous gift bag" (which actually contained the ring!) As Aaron & Skyler made their way down to Del Mar, Aaron received a phone call. Skyler, following her normal routine, started to listen to the voicemail since Aaron was driving, thinking it was something about the "meeting". Luckily Aaron was able to pull over & listen to the voicemail in full just before his plan was revealed. The voicemail was actually from Magical Adventures, the hot air balloon company. Sadly, it was too windy to take a flight out of Del Mar & the ride would have to be cancelled. Thinking quick on his toes, Aaron was able to come up with a back up plan. Aaron told Skyler the meeting had been moved to Hotel del Coronado because the "executive" would be able to meet there quicker than Del Mar. Skyler, starting to suspect something, quickly dismissed the thought of a proposal because of the great detail put into the plan. Skyler & Aaron had a late lunch at the hotel, walked around some shops, & went to nap in the car until the time of the "meeting". Aaron, struggling to breathe, kept trying to catch his breath & getting out to get some "fresh air". He told Skyler he needed to walk on the beach. Unfortunately for him, Skyler was being a total brat & "didn't want to mess up her hair before the meeting". He finally coaxed her out of the car & onto the beach. At 5:40 (sunset), Aaron told Skyler how much he meant to her, why he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her, & got down on one knee. Skyler's response was this (in the following order): "IS THIS REAL LIFE?!!?" "YOU'RE KIDDING!!!" & "YES YES YES A MILLION TIMES YES!" They drove to Skyler's house to find a surprise party with close family & were able to celebrate with sparkling cider, ice cream cake & good company!
